Welcome to my Weebly!
While the Centennial School Community is dealing with our school closure due to COVID-19, this website will hopefully be a useful resource to help you/ your child. As a learning support teacher, part of my job includes providing reading intervention support to students at Centennial School. The learning support page will provide you with links to help students who were receiving reading intervention support continue to build on their success, and practice their word recognition and reading skills. Other links, that will hopefully be useful or informative for you, will be added over the next few weeks. |

COVID- 19 Hand Washing Links:
Following is a link that will open a time capsule your child may want to work on alone or with you as a family. It can also be used as a springboard for a different type of time capsule. You may wish to take pictures, make a video, write about what it was like to go shopping, how often the family used the car, how businesses had to close down, include a clip from a newspaper or online website, and a variety of other things that you experience during this time. You may want to start your own daily diary. Here's the link: 2020_covid-19_time_capsule_sheets__1_.pdf

COVID- 19 Hand Washing Links:
- https://www.youtube.com/watch?time_continue=1&v=GAP8HZdV5Qo&feature=emb_title - A doctor shows kids how to wash their hands using a nursery rhyme to help them remember the steps.
- https://www.cbc.ca/player/play/1711355971548 - CBC news, how to wash your hands like a surgeon.
- One tip I have used in the past when teaching in my classroom was to put a little olive oil on the students hands, sprinkle them with pepper to represent the germs, and then get the students to start with cold water and see how much they could wash off when washing as they usually do. Next, I would get them to use warmer water, and then lastly use soap and to sing 'Happy Birthday' to themselves. This helps provide a visual to demonstrate the importance of soap, warm water, scrubbing as well as washing for a long enough time.
